If not previously, at least now, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you must be hearing a lot about carrying sanitizing wipes such as disinfecting wipes and antibacterial wipes, apart from maintaining social distancing and wearing mask. And maximum of us tend to think that both the types of wipes are same and is meant for the same purpose. But, this is not the reality. Still not clear? Read the complete write-up.

Disinfecting Wipes:

A piece of disposable paper towel that is pre-soaked in disinfecting solutions like quaternary ammonium salt, sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen peroxide are termed as disinfecting wipes. These wipes are capable of killing viruses, bacteria and fungi, within minutes. The most important characteristic of it is that it is used only on hard surfaces to lessen the spread of bacterial and virus infections. Most of the time, packed with pleasant scent, disinfecting wipes act as the perfect and easiest means to keep almost any type of hard, non-porous surface sanitized. Tables, door handles/knobs, countertops, sinks, tiles, telephones, keyboards, appliances, ceramics, toys and etc. are few of the most common examples. Thus, it is also widely used in offices and industries. Depending on the purpose of use, customers can procure these wipes with varied thickness.

Antibacterial Wipes:

Even though antibacterial wipes are manufactured with similar components, they are mainly for killing bacteria, than any other types of germs. These wipes come with additional chemicals that allows them not only to kill the bacteria but also to prevent them from replicating. Unlike the previous one, antibacterial wipes are used for cleaning the skin and sanitizing the hands. Since they are used on human body, benzalkonium chloride, benzalkonium chloride and alcohol are its active ingredients. Off late, its usage has increased in offices, schools and homes to stay safe from viruses and other contagious germs. Speaking about its thickness, they generally are thin, as they are not for using on hard surfaces.

Although researchers are yet to confirm it effectiveness in preventing the spread of Corona Virus, disinfecting wipes and antibacterial wipes are rapidly flying out of shelves, and there is no harm in using them, given to the pandemic situation. Even the World Health Organization recommends hygiene. Making use of either of the wipes, people should regularly cleanse and decontaminate their homes and living spaces. Just that, since now you know the differences, remember to use them on things and areas where these wipes are actually meant for.
